What you need to sell your car

  • A valid photo driving licence or your passport

  • Proof of address, such as a utility bill or bank statement

  • A valid V5C that matches your name, address and the number plates 

  • Evidence of your car’s service history

  • Handbook

  • Any accessories that came with the car, such as locking wheel nuts, radio and key codes 

  • Sat nav discs

  • MOT (if applicable) 

  • Spare keys

  • If you have outstanding finance, a letter from the finance company confirming their settlement figure.

If you’re not the registered keeper of the car, you’ll need to bring written authorisation from the registered keeper that you’re allowed to sell it. You’ll also need the registered keeper’s photo ID.

Please also make sure the fuel light isn’t on.
